Great Northerners

Northern is part of the social, economic and cultural fabric of the North of England. We have an ongoing programme of naming our trains after 'Great Northerners'. These are the people who really made the North great - mostly ordinary, hard working people - not necessarily the 'great men' who get their names in the history books. We don't confine the names to a particular type of train - we have some class 158s, 150s and even an electric 333 named.

We are always open to suggestions for train namings, ideally someone who made a real difference to the North of England, but who is perhaps not fully recognised.
