The ‘Friends of Nunthorpe station’ are a group of local volunteers, many of which are also members of the Nunthorpe and Marton knitters. They bring the station alive with their wonderful knitted displays to tie in with different calendar events throughout the year.

The displays that they created for the recent Royal Wedding proved to be a real talking point. News of their Royal Wedding display reached newspapers, TV and social media all over the world. They also created a display for the Radio 1 Big Weekend which took place in Marton this year. The display included James Arthur, Miley Cyrus on her wrecking ball and many other artists who were performing at the popular festival. Following the event, the figures were auctioned to raise money for local charities in the area.

The station adopters at Nunthorpe station do not only exhibit knitted displays, they have also installed planters and herb boxes on the platforms. These are always brimming with seasonal plants and herbs which brighten up the station even on the dullest of days and provide herbs for the local community to help themselves to and cook with at home.
