Northern Rail, working in partnership with the East Lancashire Community Rail Partnership, will be running a new direct service between Colne and Manchester Victoria on weekdays from Monday 10 December.
To provide the new service, some alterations will be made to the current 17:57 Blackburn – Colne service, which will now terminate at Burnley. However, the new 17:29 Manchester – Colne service will call at all stations.
Steve Butcher, Area Director, Northern Rail, said: “We continually review our services to ensure they are meeting the needs of our customers. The new service will benefit a significant number of current passengers and also encourage motorists to switch to our trains.”
Richard Watts, Partnership Secretary, East Lancashire Community Rail Partnership, said: "The East Lancashire Community Rail Partnership welcomes the introduction of a through train from East Lancashire to manchester. With attractive fares we hope that the service will prove to be a popular addition to the timetable.
“The Partnership is now working with Northern to look at further changes that might be introduced from the December 2008 timetable. This is a small start and the Partnership wishes it every success."
