Northern Rail has announced that it is continuing its sponsorship of the Rugby Football League (RFL) Northern Rail Cup. In addition to this, they have also reached a new partnership agreement with the RFL enabling the company to expand its support of the game at all levels.
The new partnership agreement will see Northern’s sponsorship cover 20 key games during the 2007 season including the World Challenge Cup, Internationals, the Challenge Cup semis and final and the Super League play offs and final.
Heidi Mottram, Managing Director, Northern Rail, commented: “Our continuing sponsorship of the Northern Rail Cup, together with the new partnership with the RFL, enables us to extend our support to a game that is at the very heart of many of the communities we serve.
“Our partnership with the RFL will enable us to build on our relationships with communities across our network through a sport that actively encourages and promotes family involvement and engagement.
“The geography of many of the rugby league clubs in the north of England means they are well served by our services. We are confident the sponsorship will raise awareness of the Northern Rail brand and have a positive impact on the number of fans choosing to travel by train, increasing passenger numbers on off-peak services.”
Commenting on the announcement, the RFL's Chief Operating Officer Nigel Wood said: "Our expanded partnership with Northern Rail is great news for the sport.
“It brings healthy commercial benefits in addition to their support for the Northern Rail Cup and we look forward to working with them on many new initiatives and projects.”
The launch event, supported by players from the National League, took place at the Eureka Museum in Halifax. A train depicting images from last year’s successful Northern Rail Cup competition pulled into Halifax station to mark the occasion. Thousands of people will see the images as the train travels across the Northern Rail network.
