NORTHERN INTRODUCES NEW RAIL SECURITY TEAMS

As part of its on-going commitment to ensure the safety of passengers and staff, Northern Rail has invested £1.5 million on high visibility rail security teams across its network.
 
The teams will be operational from Wednesday, 25 October on the Airedale and Wharfedale lines and between Bolton and Rochdale, providing support to both passengers and staff at stations and on-board trains.
 
The security teams will be in uniform and equipped with vehicles allowing them to respond quickly to incidents.  The mobile units will be fully equipped with communications and video equipment capable of remotely monitoring stations and car parks while the teams are responding to an incident or patrolling the route by train.
 
The teams will work in partnership with the British Transport Police, sharing intelligence and attending regular joint briefings.
 
Martyn Guiver, Security and Emergency Planning Manager, Northern Rail, said:  “The safety of our passengers and staff is paramount.  The security teams will patrol the network as a visible deterrent to the small minority of people committing anti- social behaviour along our routes”.
