25th March 2010
British champion apprentice jockey Freddie Tylicki from Malton, North Yorkshire, has given his support to a racing promotion that has pulled in over 50,000 racegoers in the past five years.
Now in its 24th year, the Back a Winner by Train promotion enables racegoers using the train to get up to £4 off admission into the Grandstand, Paddock or County Enclosures at participating racecourses in the North of England and Scotland.
The scheme, in association with Northern, First TransPennine Express and First ScotRail, now features a record 200 days of racing at 12 courses with newcomers Pontefract and Hexham joining Beverley, Carlisle, Cartmel, Doncaster, Hamilton Park, Musselburgh, Newcastle, Redcar, Thirsk and York.
In addition to savings on admission, racegoers have the opportunity to obtain £2 off a toteplacepot bet of £5 or more. This will be part of the voucher racegoers can claim when buying their travel tickets for the races at 90 rail stations across the region.
Freddie Tylicki said: “I’m all for getting more people to go racing and this scheme certainly encourages that. It’s great to see racecourses working with the train operators to come up with this superb offer, and I feel sure ‘Back A Winner by Train’ will continue to be a firm favourite for everyone enjoying a day out at the races.”
The promotion runs from this Saturday March 27 until December 30.
