Northern and its joint owner Abellio are offering free secure cycle parking in return for customer feedback at CyclePoint at Leeds Station. CyclePoint, which opens for a pilot phase today, will provide:
CyclePoint is based on a hugely successful Dutch concept brought to the UK by Abellio and developed in partnership with Northern, Department for Transport, Metro and Network Rail. It will be operated by Evans Cycles. Steve Butcher, Chief Operating Officer, Northern said: “It is important that CyclePoint really works for customers, which is why we are opening with this pilot phase. We hope that free cycle parking and reduced prices for rentals and repairs will encourage customers to give us their feedback ahead of the formal launch in September." The free pilot phase will run until 27 September when CyclePoint will be officially launched by Transport Minister, Norman Baker MP and the Dutch Ambassador to the UK, His Excellency Pim Waldeck. Thereafter, parking tariffs will apply. Click here for details of these and all CyclePoint services. Only 2% of UK train passengers travel to the station by bike. This is in contrast to Holland where cycling accounts for over a third of all trips to and from the station. CyclePoint is expected to become an important link in the end-to-end journey for passengers using Leeds station. |
