Seven CCTV cameras have been installed at Lostock Hall station near Preston aimed at tackling antisocial behaviour, trespassing and vandalism.
The cameras are in place thanks to the partnership of Northern and the East Lancashire Community Rail Partnership and they are part funded by the Community Rail Development Fund (supported by ACORP, Network Rail and Department for Transport).
The security system links back to Northern’s control centre and the footage from the cameras will be monitored 24 hours a day.
Kathryn O’Brien, Client and Stakeholder Manager for Northern, comments: “Lostock Hall station has been the victim of vandalism for several years. The introduction of these CCTV cameras will give our customers added security and deter would-be vandals from causing trouble at the station. We have worked hard with our partners to bring this to fruition and this addition will greatly benefit our passengers.”
Richard Watts, East Lancashire Community Rail Partnership Secretary, comments: “Having CCTV at the station is a great step forward in reducing antisocial behaviour and will help improve customer perception of safety and security”.
