- Careers - Working at Northern - Duty Passenger Manager Interview
Hi I’m Tony
I work as a Duty Passenger Manager at a very busy station. I have been a Manager with Northern for the past 2 years, before that I have done lots of roles mainly in customer services for Northern, I have worked hard to get this position.
I am responsible for managing the train despatchers and barrier staff at the station I work at. I also do recruitment interviews and deal with any day-to-day staff issues that crop up. We have an open door policy at work which means often we work reactively.
I love the fact that this role still means I get to deal with the public, I love sorting things out for people and putting a smile on their face – it makes my day! However dealing with the public means there is no typical day in my job, it varies day to day; it keeps me on my toes!
We have a good team spirit at the station I work, we are a big team but we get along and it makes it a nice place to come every day.
As a Manager I get the opportunity to get involved with various projects as well as my day-to-day role. I love the project side of things although it does mean I have to prioritise and be super organised and look at what work needs my attention most. Outside of work I am passionate about football and once even got to play at Anfield.
