For Northern, environmental sustainability is about making a proactive and positive contribution to the environment. As well as preventing pollution, we're looking at where we can make even more impact and we're developing action plans that will help us achieve our goal of being a low carbon business.
We want as many people as possible to get involved and help us to be the train operating company making the most positive contribution to environmental sustainability.
We work with many partners, including customers, employees, shareholders, stakeholders, suppliers and local communities. All these people are important in helping us to help the environment.
We use a lot of electricity, gas and fuel. If we want to be a low carbon business, we need to reduce our consumption of energy if we are to make a positive impact on the changing climate.
We want to reduce our consumption of natural resources and reduce waste. We want to make sure the waste we do produce is reused or recycled as much as possible.
We take our environmental responsibilities seriously. Northern wants to lead by example and help all our industry partners tackle environmental sustainability.
