RUGBY LEAGUE GETS READY TO ROCK BLACKPOOL
9th July 2010
I joined Battler the Bulldog and Kemik the Viking, the official mascots of Northern Rail Cup finalists Batley and Widnes on an awayday by train to Blackpool recently.
This was to get a feel for the seaside resort in the run up to the forthcoming Rugby League extravaganza on the Fylde Coast.
First stop was Blackpool North station where we encountered some very bemused passengers. Then we checked out a few of the sites ahead of the Northern Rail Cup Final at Bloomfield Road on Sunday July 18 and the Northern Rail 9s at Fylde Rugby Club on Saturday July 17.
There’s such a lot to see and do here and it was amazing to go up right to the top of Blackpool Tower. The views are simply breathtaking and I’d recommend it to everyone.
We then headed to the sea front – doesn’t everyone – before turning up at the Pleasure Beach where the action is non-stop. It would have been good to spend a whole day here but we were on a tight filming schedule!
It was a fun day of filming in the sunshine and we made a very entertaining video – check it out at

Although I guess Widnes will go into the game as slight favourites you can bet that Batley will be fired up and very well organised under coach Karl Harrison. And remember if you ca’t be there to soak up the special atmosphere you can catch all of the action live on Sky Sports from 4pm.
Enjoy the game
