Keighley prop Scott Law picked up the Northern Rail Cup player of the week award for the first round of fixtures following his outstanding performance in the Cougars’ 40-20 victory over Gateshead Thunder on Tuesday 10 February.

Meanwhile Oldham captain Robert Roberts scooped the Northern Rail Cup player of the week award for the second week of fixtures after guiding his team to an excellent victory against Widnes Vikings.

Keighley star Scott Law said: "I’m over the moon - absolutely delighted. I’ve won a few man of the match awards in my time but never anything like this.

"I’m part of a great team at Keighley and our win against Gateshead was a top quality team performance and I am proud for both myself and the club."

Scott Law will be presented with a specially engraved trophy this Sunday at Cougar Park when Keighley host Hunslet Hawks in the Northern Rail Cup.

Robert Roberts who was instrumental in his side’s stunning 22-20 victory over the hotly tipped Vikings at the Stobart Stadium on Friday night was thrilled to receive the award but he quickly turned the spotlight on to the Oldham team.

Robert Roberts said: "It's great to receive awards like this, and a big thank you to all concerned, but the secret of our success was teamwork. Every man played his part.

"One of the most pleasing aspects of the win was how we reacted after they came back at us to go 20-18 in front.

"We showed great spirit right to the end. We didn't regain the lead until the 78th minute and that proved that our fitness levels were right up there with those of the full-time professionals."

Roberts will receive his award this Sunday as Oldham host Sheffield Eagles in their next Northern Rail Cup fixture.

The Northern Rail Cup Final takes place at Bloomfield Road on Sunday 12 July as the climax to an exciting weekend of action as Rugby League rocks Blackpool with the inaugural Northern Rail 9s competition.
