Wildey wins Northern Rail Cup Player of the Week award

26th February 2009

Wildey wins Northern Rail Cup Player of the Week award asset 1 Dewsbury forward Taron Wildey has won the Northern Rail Cup Player of the Week award following his man of the match display in the Rams' 28-26 victory over Featherstone Rovers at the weekend.

The forward played through the pain barrier in the second half following an injury to his hand to help Dewsbury come out on top and he has put the Rams' excellent start in the Northern Rail Cup competition down to an intensive pre season.

Taron Wildey said: "We have had massive pre season preparation which is now showing through on the pitch.

"It's been very tough but we've come through it as a team and are getting stronger and stronger every week.

"It's an honour to receive an award like this but I would never have won it if it wasn't for the rest of the lads around me, hopefully we will continue this season as we have started."

Dewsbury's second victory in Pool Two means that the Rams are in a strong position to qualify for the knock out stages of the Northern Rail Cup and their Coach Warren Jowitt praised Wildey’s contribution to this success.

Dewsbury Rams Coach Warren Jowitt said: "Taron is a player whose commitment is never in doubt on and off the field and this is telling in his performances.  He's worked extremely hard to get where he is at and is a pleasure to coach.

"I congratulate him on this award and look forward to many more of his games as he is a talented youngster."

Taron Wildey will be presented with his award this Sunday as the Rams' host local rivals Batley Bulldogs.
