The 2010 Northern Rail Cup campaign got off to a slippery start on Sunday. Only three matches at Dewsbury, Leigh and Blackpool managed to be played as overnight frost gripped the North of England.
Dewsbury coach, Warren Jowitt was delighted to see his charges gain a convincing victory against a resolute London Skolars side. “ The Championship is our main goal this season, but the Northern Rail Cup is an important competition and like last year we want to progress as far as we can into the knock out stages,” commented Jowitt.
Despite a hefty defeat, London Skolars new head coach James Massara said: “It was good to have a hard work out with a team as good as Dewsbury and the lads will gain much from playing a team from a higher division.”
There were also wins for Leigh Centurions against Oldham and Keighley emerged victorious in a closely-fought contest against Keighley Cougars.
