Northern Rail BARLA National Youth Cup Finals - Finals Preview
23rd April 2009
Three teams will be crowned National Champions as the biggest games in the youth and junior season are played at The Willows, home of engage Super League side Salford City Reds on Bank Holiday Monday (4 May).
After four months, numerous rounds and 132 teams it’s now down to the final games of yet another thrilling season for six sides as they battle to be crowned the best side in the country.
An afternoon of action starts at 2.00pm with the under 14’s final between Rylands and Shaw Cross.
The Warrington side have had an outstanding season so far and will be looking to finish it off in style.
Having already collected the North West Counties Premier Division title Rylands may go into final as slight favourites, however, Shaw Cross - who are also flying high in the Yorkshire Junior Premier Division - will certainly have other ideas.
The under 16’s showpiece sees the day’s only Cumbrian outfit take to the field.
Broughton Red Rose will travel down hoping to become the first ever Cumbrian winners of the under 16’s title, but will face a stern test against Hull Isberg.
Isberg - who ply their trade in the Yorkshire Combination Premier Division - will make the trip across the M62 full of confidence and all those in attendance are sure to be impressed with the skills on show from both sides.
The last match of the day sees a huge Leigh derby in the under 18’s finale as Leigh Miners Rangers take on fierce rivals Leigh East.
After a superb season in the Gillette National Youth League many people will be tipping Miners to come away with the spoils, but their opponents won’t be overawed having run them close in their league fixture last month.
