RAIDERS GO TO SCHOOL WITH THE NORTHERN RAIL CUP
26th April 2009

Pupils from Victoria Junior School in Barrow got their hands on the Northern Rail Cup today when Barrow Raiders head coach Dave Clark and player Martin Oslter dropped in to see them with the Northern Rail Cup ahead of their quarter final fixture with Dewsbury Rams on the 6 June.
To encourage children to get involved in rugby league and to talk to them about the railway, including the dangers of playing near railway lines, Northern Rail, together with representatives from the clubs involved in the Northern Rail Cup quarter finals, is taking the trophy into schools.
Matt Beeton, Area Director, Northern Rail said: "We are really passionate about being involved in the communities that we serve and working in partnership with Barrow Raiders is a fun way of communicating a serious safety message to children."
Dave Clark, Head Coach and Community Development Manager at Barrow Raiders said: "This was a fantastic opportunity to let the children hear what it would mean to the Raiders to reach the final of the Northern Rail Cup in Blackpool."
Caroline Vernon, Head Teacher at Victoria Junior School, said: "The visit from Northern Rail and Barrow Raiders proved a huge hit with our pupils. The presentation was pitched at exactly the right level mixing the very serious message of rail safety with the excitement of seeing the Northern Rail Cup and learning more about the competition."
The children were also given the chance to win tickets to see Raiders take on Dewsbury Rams in the quarter finals by writing a piece of poetry about rugby or trains.
