Clitheroe
At the heart of the Ribble Valley lies the historic market town of Clitheroe. Retaining much of its old charm and character, Clitheroe is famed for its family run shops specialising in a range of produce from sausages and wine to coffee and tea. The town is dominated by a huge limestone rock crowned by the 800-year-old keep of an ancient castle. The castle grounds include a large open-air auditorium hosting many concerts in the summer months. Once the battleground of the Scots and Normans, Edisford Bridge Picnic Area is a pleasant family spot on the outskirts of the town.

Burnley
At the heart of Pennine Lancashire, industrial heritage and houses combine with attractions such as a brewery and working forge. High above the town stands the panopticon, the 'singing-ringing tree', a stunning musical sculpture steeped in folklore and mythology, with wonderful views over the town, from Pendle Hill to Worsthorne Moor. Burnley also has a modern town centre offering great retail therapy for the less energetic.

Accrington
With 70 stalls, the Victorian Market Hall opens daily except Wednesday and Sunday, and the Tuesday, Friday and Saturday open market has a further 180 stalls. The town also has an impressive town hall and stone railway viaduct.

Blackburn Having over 300 stalls, makes Blackburn market the largest in the north west. This classic Lancashire town is also famed for its mill shops. The famous Hart bequest can be found at the town's Museum and Art Gallery; the fantastic collection includes treasures from all over the world, including an Egyptian mummy.

Preston
Preston's old dock is now a picturesque marina with shops, restaurants and other attractions, including the Ribble Steam Railway and Museum. Take a 1.5 mile steam-hauled train journey along the riverside and see a fine selection of locomotives.
