To qualify for this special offer, simply collect 2 tokens from your local newspaper, printed until Saturday 6 February 2016, register or log-in to MyNorthern, download an application form (below) and buy your tickets from any staffed ticket office.

You can travel anywhere on the Northern Rail network using Northern Rail services. Hop on and off all day long. Visit Leeds, Liverpool, Manchester, Southport, Sheffield, York and more with Northern Rail.

2 tokens allow you to buy up to 4 Northern Rail only Day Ranger tickets or Weekend Rover tickets which must all be used on the same day or weekend (depending on the ticket chosen). Travel is available between Monday 25 January - Sunday 20 March 2016 (excluding 13 - 21 February 2016 inclusive).

  3. Print off and complete the application form for the promotional fare offer.
  4. Collect and affix two coupons from any participating Johnston Press publication to your application form.

Frequently Asked Questions

Q. I've not received the email to confirm my MyNorthern registration

A. Check your junk email folder to make sure that your email hasn't gone into there. If you still haven't received the email please contact our customer relations department who will be able to assist you.

Q. When I try to login I receive a message saying that I haven't confirmed my account

A. The website will send you another confirmation email for you to confirm your account so you can login.

Q. I have forgotten my password

A. Enter your email address into the reset password functionality. You will then receive a reset password email with a link. Click on the link and enter a new password into two password fields (1 to confirm). This will reset your password.

Q. I haven't received a confirmation/reset password email

A. Call Customer Relations and provide them with your email address. Customer Relations will ask you for two bits of information to verify yourself. Once you have successfully provided security information Customer Relations will reset your password to a random secure one and email this to you.

Q. I haven't got a PDF reader - where can I get one?

A. Adobe Reader is available to download for Windows PC and Apple Mac computers for free. Other PDF readers should also be able to open the form. If you are still unable to open the form - please contact our customer relations department.

Q. I haven't got a printer

A. Many local libraries provide access to a printer so you can print out the application form; find your nearest library at findalibrary.org.uk.

Q. I don't have an email address

A. Call Customer Relations who will enter your details into a form. The website will store these details and a form will be generated with your address and a front letter. Customer Relations will print out the form and front letter and send it to you.

Q. I don't live near to a staffed railway station so I can't buy a ticket

A. Please contact our customer relations department.

Q. I have missed the copy of my local paper that has a Northern Rail promotional token in?

A. Contact the relevant newspaper group: Local World 01482 315276/ Newsquest 01274 705248/ Johnston Press 0844 292 0216 where they will be able to order back copies of the relevant newspaper.

Terms and conditions

  1. Tickets are available for sale from Monday 25 January 2016 until Sunday 20 March 2016 (for One Day Ranger tickets) and Saturday 19 March 2016 (for Weekend Rover tickets). Tickets can be purchased up to three days in advance of travel.
  2. Travel is available from Monday 25 January - Sunday 20 March 2016 (excluding 13 - 21 February 2016 inclusive). One day tickets are available every day for the duration of this offer. Weekend tickets are available each Saturday and Sunday between Saturday 30 January - Saturday 19 March 2016 (excluding 13 / 14, 20 / 21 February 2016).
  3. Time restrictions: only valid on trains timed to depart after 0845 Mondays to Fridays. Valid at any time weekends and Bank Holidays.
  4. 2 tokens allow you to buy up to 4 Northern Rail Day Ranger or 4 Weekend Rover tickets.
  5. Price: Day Ranger - adult £10.00 each / child £5.00 each for one day ticket OR Weekend Ranger - £17.50 each / child £8.75 for children - no further discounts available. *Children 5-15 years inclusive.
  6. Valid on trains operated by Northern Rail only. This offer is not valid for travel on Arriva Trains Wales, Cross Country, Virgin East Coast, East Midlands Trains, First Hull Trains, First TransPennine Express, Grand Central, London Midland, Merseyrail Electrics or Virgin Trains services.
  7. Affix two tokens from participating newspapers to the application form and take to any staffed station within the Northern Rail network. The tickets for this offer cannot be purchased on trains.
  8. Completed signed application forms are valid to purchase up to four Northern Rail Day Ranger or Weekend Rover tickets (must include a minimum one adult ticket) for the same day/weekend of travel. Photocopies of tokens and application forms are not accepted.
  9. Postcode details will be shared with Johnston Press. If you opted in for marketing from Northern Rail and Johnston Press during registration, your details will be passed to Johnston Press, Orchard Brae House, 30 Queensferry Road, Edinburgh, EH4 2HS.
