NATIONAL RAILWAY MUSEUM TEAMS UP WITH NORTHERN TO TRAVEL THE NORTH asset 1

Some of the most famous residents of the National Railway Museum are set to tour the north of England with Northern Rail.

The train operator has teamed up with the National Railway Museum to create a special ‘wrap’ for one of its trains (unit number 156490).  The livery features images of trains from across the ages including a replica of Stephenson’s Rocket, the record breaking ‘Mallard’ and the cab of a Eurostar.  The theme continues inside with bespoke tabletop designs encouraging families to visit the museum by train.

The train also publicises the National Railway Museum’s summer celebrations ‘1968 and all that’ to mark the fortieth anniversary of the end of steam.

Heidi Mottram, Managing Director, Northern Rail said: “As the UK’s largest train operator we’re delighted to be supporting one of the country’s most popular visitor attractions.  Over 78 million journeys were made on our services last year and this train will be a rolling promotion and celebration of the National Railway Museum and its attractions.”

Andrew Scott, Director of the National Railway Museum, added: "It is fantastic that the National Railway Museum is working with Northern Rail to produce this unique train. Not only will it catch the attention of thousands of people across Northern England but it will also encourage them to travel to the NRM by train to enjoy a great family day out at the world's largest railway museum."
