Gatelines are coming to Salford Central

Northern is continuing its investment in Greater Manchester with the introduction of automatic gatelines at Salford Central.

The new machinery will be fully installed by 31st January 2017, following hot on the heels of a similar installation at Salford Crescent in November.

The automatic gatelines are designed to give customers a more secure and seamless experience when travelling through the station concourse. They also help reduce the number of customers travelling without a ticket and discourage anti-social behaviour.

The ticket gates are part of a £1 billion investment to transform and modernise Northern, helping improve security and encouraging all its customers to hold a valid ticket before they board trains

Liam Sumpter, Regional Director at Northern, said: “Automatic gatelines are an integral part of our ongoing modernisation programme that will transform stations across the Northern network.

“We have already introduced the gates at Salford Crescent, as well as Manchester Victoria, Wigan Wallgate and Bolton, and wanted to continue our investment in Greater Manchester by adding Salford Central to that list.”

Cubic Transportation Systems (CTS), a business unit of Cubic Corporation, supplied the technology for the new ticket gates and, during the early part of 2017, will provide further equipment allowing for gates to be installed at Bradford Forster Square, Halifax and Harrogate.
