The Peak District National Park is on Sheffield’s doorstep, and the city also has its own green spaces like Graves Park and Endcliffe Park.

Walking is a great way to get some fresh air and exercise, and it’s also a great way to explore Sheffield’s many different neighbourhoods. So, why not take a walk in Sheffield to learn more about the city, or head out to one of Sheffield’s leafy suburbs for a peaceful stroll?

1. The Trans Pennine Trail

Starting from Sheffield Train Station, the Trans Pennine Trail (TPT) is a long distance walking route that guides you through Sheffield city and into some of the most beautiful countryside in the North of England. Through the city you can follow the Five Weirs Walk along the River Don to snap some beautiful photos of Sheffield, the walk takes you past five of Sheffield's weirs, and the iconic Cobweb Bridge, before finishing at Ladybower Reservoir. Continuing the Trans Pennine Trail out of Sheffield will lead you into some of the most breathtaking countryside in the North. With stunning views of the Peak District and beyond, and as such an easy way to discover Sheffield, it's easy to see why the TPT is first on our list of the best walks in Sheiffield.

2. The Sheffield Round Walk

The Sheffield Round Walk is a fantastic way to see some of the city's best-loved sights, as well as getting some fresh air. This 15-mile Sheffield walking trail is split into 4 sections and takes you past many of Sheffield's landmarks, including a fascinating 16th century Shepherds Wheel, the charming Mayfield Alpacas, and even the grand medieval Beauchief Abbey. As you follow the trail out of the city you will pass parkland and extensive woodlands to reach the countryside, where you can enjoy walking along rivers and streams. The walk starts and ends at Endcliffe Park and can be completed fully in around 7 hours making it perfect for an adventurous day out discovering the city and exploring nature.

3. Wyming Brook Nature Reserve

The Green Flag award winning Wyming Brook Nature Reserve is a Sheffield walk not to be missed while in Sheffield. The whole area was once the private grounds of Rivelin Chase and used for hunting by the aristocracy, but today it can be enjoyed by everyone who wants to get closer to nature. Leisurely trails will guide you along flowing streams and through beautiful woodland, whilst the rockier trails lead you to the stunning Rivelin reservoir with amazing views over Sheffield. What makes Wyming Brook particularly special is the vast array of wildlife to be seen (and photographed!) in the area, including several bird species like wood warblers and bullfinches. So if you’re looking to take some beautiful photos, tire the kids out, or just enjoy a leisurely stroll in nature, then Wyming Brook Nature Reserve is the perfect place.

4. Forge Dam Park Walk

Sheffield is renowned for its stunning scenery, and Forge Dam Park is a perfect example. The park offers beautiful views across the dam, and the quaint trickling stream is a wildlife hotspot which makes for great photos, especially if you can catch one of the herons or other bird species. Forge Dam is a great place to take a break from the hustle and bustle of city life and enjoy some peace and quiet. The playground will also keep the kids entertained while you relax, making Forge Dam Park the perfect place for a family day out. There are plenty of beautiful picnic spots but if you don’t fancy bringing your own food you can stop at the café onsite to relax and refuel. Hence, we had to include this scenic walk in our list of the best walks in Sheffield.
